Kayleigh's homeownership story!
After having lived at home until Kayleigh was in her mid-twenties, she felt she was ready for her own space and had her heart set on owning her own home rather than renting.
Kayleigh fell in love with the Cork house style on one of our Derbyshire developments and now has her own space to study and focus on her Master’s degree, as well as a space to express her creativity through her new found love of DIY projects!

Kayleigh, eager to get on the property ladder, decided that 2022 was the year to make the move and purchased a 2 bedroom semi-detached Cork just a short distance from the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.
Kayleigh exchanged, completed, and moved into her new home in just six weeks with the help of Meridian Mortgages and the Gleeson team. Kayleigh, an extremely proud home owner, quickly settled into her new space and discovered her newly found love for DIY projects!
Despite the news of rising energy prices, Kayleigh has discovered that her energy bills have been comfortably low since moving into her home, which means she can continue to invest, decorate and buy things for her home in addition to having the other responsibilities that come with being a homeowner.
Kayleigh said: “This is my first home; I really wanted a new build because I didn't want to take the risk of discovering problems and having to pay for repairs when renovating an older home. I was adamant I didn’t want to rent, so I spent the last few years whilst living with my parents saving enough money for a deposit, and putting myself in a position to confidently pay mortgage payments and bills. Once I reached a comfortable stage, I started house hunting! I would recommend visiting as many Gleeson show homes as possible because each one has something different to offer. Gleeson was both affordable and reliable, which certainly influenced my decision, and the government’s Help to Buy scheme which was available when I bought, made buying my first home even easier.
I've been able to implement my style throughout and, with some help from my parents, have completed many DIY projects to truly personalise my space. I've chosen a bright white theme with pastel splashes to keep the modern, sleek look that I adore. I really like how the Cork has patio doors and large windows for lots of natural light. I love how my home came with a driveway and how big my garden is! I can't wait to get creative and make use of the space later in the Spring. Each room is a great size with plenty of space. My favourite room is by far my kitchen; I decided to upgrade my kitchen options to suit my style, and I'm so glad I did - my New York Gloss white cabinets paired with my Woodstone worktops look amazing! I upgraded to a fan oven and LED lighting in the kitchen and bathroom too.
Since moving into my new home, my life has completely transformed. I now have my own personal space - and plenty of it! I've quickly settled into the development and enjoy the sense of community that comes with it.
I was fortunate enough to have a family member who lives on the same development, and showed me my home's progress in great detail whilst it was being built. I also befriended one of my neighbours on Instagram; it was great to have someone else going through the same experience as me - we even got our keys on the same day! I couldn’t be happier with my new home and my lovely development."
