Supporting communities, to build a better future
At Gleeson, we value the importance of positively connecting with the communities in which we build.
Alongside delivering new homes and sustainable developments, we also remain committed to developing healthy and happy communities.
Through local engagement activities, community grants, fundraising projects and sustainability initiatives, we aim to deliver real and meaningful social impact.
Local teams and community projects
We are proud to offer our support to local grassroots teams and community projects in the regions in which we build. Through our Community Matters initiative, we have annual funding allocated, providing grants of up to £250 per development*.
This money could be used to provide a new kit for your local grassroots team, or to help with arranging travel to away games. Or perhaps you’re organising a local community project where our support will benefit the local area.

*The current funding period is from 1st July 2024 until 30th June 2025. All applications received within this period will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis and must evidence that the funding will positively impact the local community. Political and religious-affiliated organisations will not be supported, in line with MJ Gleeson's charitable donation policy. Applications that financially benefit a registered business or individual will also not be considered.
HomeSafe everyone, every day
At Gleeson, we’re committed to the health and safety of all those impacted by our building. Our HomeSafe everyone, every day belief is our number one health and safety priority and underpins everything we do. HomeSafe protects everybody who is involved in our works as well as anyone in the local community who may be affected by them.
We appreciate that having a live building site in the local area can sometimes be disruptive. That’s why, as a responsible developer, we regularly assess our sites to ensure control measures are in place to minimise any disruption. All our sites implement security procedures to ensure they always remain secure and unauthorised access is prevented.
We also recognise that building sites can be a temptation to children who may not understand the dangers that can be associated with these areas. Where relevant, and to help raise awareness of these dangers, we actively engage with local schools and community groups to discuss this and demonstrate the importance of health and safety on live building sites.

Engaging with local schools
Our teams are passionate about being part of the learning our local children do, and we have previously worked with young students and classes to create and bury time capsules, name our streets or plant flowers and trees.
For KS4 and KS5 students considering a career in construction, teachers/tutors can arrange a visit to one of our sites, where members of our site management team will be happy to discuss appropriate avenues into build-related trades. There may also be the opportunity to participate in some hands-on activities and further enforce the importance of health and safety on building sites.
If you’re a local school and interested in arranging a visit to one of our sites or if you have a project that we may be able to support with, please get in touch with your local development and we’ll do our very best to facilitate this.
Updating our communities
We’re committed to making a difference, and we also want our communities to be kept up to date with the work we’re doing both on site and in the local area. Therefore, where there’s a requirement to do so, we distribute community newsletters with information on the work we’re carrying out on site and the great work that our people are doing to change the lives of those in the community.

Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity
In 2024, we proudly became an official company supporter of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. The Lighthouse Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and families.
The health and wellbeing of our colleagues and wider construction network is so important, making this a seamless collaboration and a cause we’re proud to support.

Careers at Gleeson
Our people are at the heart of everything we do and we’re always on the lookout for talented individuals to join our workforce.
Not only do we pride ourselves on employing local people, but we also employ apprentices across all functions of the business, impacting the lives of those living in our local communities and helping them on their way to a successful career.
Gleeson was the first housebuilder to be accredited by the Living Wage Foundation* for introducing the “Real” Living Wage as an absolute minimum for all employees. Tax contributions are a key part of the positive social and economic impact made by a business, and here at Gleeson, we value this importance in the communities we build.
